All alone

Posted in Group:

Hi I am new to this post I am a compulsive gambler and I have been hiding it for years. It started when I was 28 I had just ended my marriage and I could care less about anybody except poker machines. Its like a would be making love to them because I would play them so often. I have hit rock bottom once by not having shelter or food to eat it was that bad. I finnaly got myself back on my feet met a wonderful guy and fell right back into it when I got comfortable. I have lied and hurt everyone around me my family my friends even my relationship with my boyfriend of 4 in a half years. I know he is sick of my bullshit and doesn't believe me anymore which leads me to believe he may leave me but whether he stays or goes I know for myself I need help and going to GA on Monday. I wish there was a class sooner but unfortunately there isn't one. I want to live my life and be happy without the gambling and lies the go with it. I use to have it all but now I have nothing and people see me as a liar and gambler and my hidden identity has surfaced and I am full of shame and guilt. I have blamed other people for my faults and to finnaly come to terms and take action for my addiction and to pray to the dear lord everyday that I can do this and having faith that the dear lord will guide me in the right direction so I can do the right thing not the wrong thing. I don't want to be where I was 10 years ago where I was homeless and had nothing and I know I can't lick this on my own. Besides going to Ga I had surfed the internet and found this support group which will help in my everyday life and get support from people like myself to give me advice on what to do. Thank you for listening and hope to hear from you soon

GA is a great step to take in conquering your addiction before it takes more from your life than it already has. Therapy is also something that is worth looking into, as finances may be a hindrance, many therapists offer therapy on a sliding scale and free therapy is sometimes an option if you search hard enough (think churches, Jewish Family Services, United Way, Universities). Gambling is an addiction, but it is also a crutch or patch for helping us "deal" with life situations that seem beyond our control, for you it started as a way to deal with your marriage ending. Therapy can help you learn to actually learn to deal with life situations that would ordinarily lead you to gamble.

I applaud your effort to deal with your gambling addiction. I am so glad you found the site and if I can offer support on this journey-feel free to message me anytime.

Blessings-
CK
